Saint Joseph - Berea Partners with Saint Joseph - Berea (SJB) has entered into a partnership with Saint Mark Catholic School in Richmond, KY. Both Catholic education and Catholic health care have missions rooted in faith, social justice, and outreach to the community as an extension of the Body of Christ. There is tremendous opportunity for both SJB and Saint Mark’s to further their missions with the support of one another. SJB will provide education on healthy living to the school while Saint Mark’s students will work on projects to enhance the experience of SJB patients.
Father Jim Sichko gathered Saint Mark's School students and staff with Saint Joseph - Berea President Greg Gerard and staff for a presentation of toys, English and Spanish books and DVDs, and hand-crafted "get well" cards for Saint Joseph - Berea patients.
Saint Mark's School students kept a careful watch over the toys, games and educational materials they collected for Saint Joseph - Berea.
Saint Joseph - Berea Education Coordinator Elena Baker spoke to the kids about healthy activity and eating.
After assembly, some of Saint Mark's youngest students enjoyed their Saint Joseph - Berea logo slinkies. |

Take the Survey! Your feedback is needed! Take a survey on Patient Safety Culture. Click here to learn more! |
| Kentucky Culture of Safety Survey 2010 It is our goal to continually strive for excellence, demonstrate high quality, high patient satisfaction and a focus on patient safety. In order to develop plans and initiatives to continue improvement, it is important for Saint Joseph Health System to learn how each of our facilities can better demonstrate excellence in patient safety. One of the best ways to discover areas that need improvement is to ask for your opinions. I would appreciate your participation in a survey on Patient Safety Culture. As we work to improve patient safety, we need to work together as a team. A strong culture of patient safety and caring will help us to become a stronger leader in health care. Please take the time to complete this survey, as your feedback is essential to helping us achieve our goal of consistently delivering safe and effective care. For each question, please select one response which is the most appropriate to you. If the question is not applicable to you, just skip the question. All results are anonymous and departments with less than ten members will be grouped with other departments to protect identities. Due to fast-approaching Joint Commission accreditation surveys across Kentucky, employees are asked to complete the survey by March 5. The Joint Commission surveyors will be interested in reviewing survey responses and action plans. You can quickly access the survey via your LEARN account. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Saint Joseph Health System will GO BLUE Tomorrow In honor of American Heart Month and Valentine's Day, Saint Joseph Heart Institute will offer blood pressure screenings and heart-healthy information on Saturday, February 13 before the UK Men's basketball game against Tennessee. Saint Joseph Men's Health will offer PSA screenings, which involve a blood test that measures the amount of prostate-specific antigen in the blood to identify men at risk for prostate cancer. Look for the Saint Joseph booth in the food court in Lexington Center from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. before the game. Stop by to get special goodies for the game! Confidential Bins Can Be Used for Recycling Did you know the bins that are in place throughout Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) facilities for the disposal of confidential information can also be used for recycling? The bins are provided by a company called “Cintas,” who recycles all paper that is collected in the bins and shredded through their Document Management Service. In fiscal year 2009, their paper recycling saved over: To help them recycle even more paper, the “Working Green, Living Green” team at SJHS encourages you to drop all kinds of paper in the bins. For example, you can recycle labels, white/color paper, glossy paper, copy paper wrappers, file folders, manila folders, newspapers and magazines. SJHS is not charged by weight of items collected by Cintas, so please fill up the bins in your area with your paper waste (and not the trash cans!) New IV Bags are More Efficient, Safer and Green! You will notice over the next several weeks a change in Hospira IV bags. Saint Joseph Health System will be converting to the Hospira “VisIV” containers, which are commonly referred to as “I.V. bags.” The VisIV (pronounced vis-eye-vee) container is a totally redesigned flexible intravenous (I.V.) container for medications and solutions that helps address the needs of hospitals today: helping to reduce preventable medical errors, helping improve caregiver safety and efficiency, and helping decrease waste and its environmental impact.
Benefits: EFFICIENT SAFE GREEN Reminder: Standard Time & Attendance Upgrade Next Week We are upgrading the Standard Time and Attendance system (Kronos). Web-based system unavailable during planned downtime Be ready for the upgrade Donate to the Haiti Relief Fund Catholic Health Initiatives has contributed $40,000 to two Catholic organizations that have relief efforts and a humanitarian presence in the country of Haiti. The goal of the program is to help workers advance their careers. Interested in the School at Work Program? Talk to your manager or director and contact Brenda Harris at 859.313.1828. The program is currently in place at Saint Joseph Hospital and Saint Joseph East. The next session will begin mid-March 2010.
