United Radiation Oncology
Now Part of Saint Joseph Health System

On July 1, 2009, United Radiation Oncology became Saint Joseph Radiation Oncology, joining Saint Joseph Health System. United Radiation Oncology opened their first office in 2001 and has remained a trusted resource for radiation treatment to cancer patients in Kentucky. That same philosophy will continue as Saint Joseph Radiation Oncology.

The same physicians and staff will also continue providing state-of-the-art treatments at the two locations in Lexington, 701 Bob-O-Link Dr. (Saint Joseph Office Park) and 3470 Blazer Parkway (located behind Saint Joseph East).

Drs. Oscar Mendiondo, Jacqueline Matar and Richard Matter, who have 70 years of combined experience, will remain as the radiation oncology physician team. If you have any questions regarding the transition, you can call the staff at Saint Joseph Radiation Oncology at 859.277.3737.

'PTO Donation Bank' Established to Help Employees in Need

Want to help out a fellow employee in need but not sure how? The Saint Joseph Health System PTO Donation Program allows you to donate some of your accrued PTO hours to your local facility’s PTO Bank. Donated hours will be given to fellow employees who are suffering from a serious health condition or caring for a family member with a serious health condition and have exhausted all available leave.

To receive assistance from the PTO Donation Bank, you must fill out the Employee PTO Donation Bank Application for Assistance Form and return it to your local Human Resources department. Certain eligibility requirements must be met in order for your request to be approved by the local committee.

The Employee PTO Donation Bank Application for Assistance Form and PTO Donation Form to MBO PTO Bank can be found under the My Handbook Tab on HR/Payroll Connection.

Saint Joseph - Berea Selected for CAUTI Initiative

Saint Joseph - Berea was chosen to participate in the test of the CHI Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) for preventing Cather-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) Initiative. This EBP prevents CAUTI in part through education for those who assess the need for an indwelling catheter, perform daily assessments of the need to retain, assess infection risk, and who insert, maintain, and remove indwelling catheters.

Education is a big part of the CHI requirements for this Evidence-Based Practice, so nursing staff at Saint Joseph - Berea will be asked to be involved. The education module(s) for this initiate has been created in LEARN and will be assigned to the appropriate staff in the very near future. Keep tabs on your “My Learning” account in LEARN to see when they have been assigned. (ALL staff should be checking their LEARN account regularly as a best practice, anyway!)

TLC Cart Update in Berea

The junior volunteers at Saint Joseph - Berea are enjoying taking the TLC cart around this summer. Because the TLC cart offers snacks to employees as well as to visitors, these items are often in low supply. Would you or your family or church group like to make a project of purchasing water and snacks for the TLC Project this summer? You may provide as much or as little as you wish. To make a contribution, please call Katie Heckman at 859.986.6535.
