• Compare Your Medical Options
• Medical Expense Estimator

Refer to your Open Enrollment packet, review the LEARN modules, or visit www.SaintJosephHealthSystem.org to learn more (under “Saint Joseph Employees,” click on “SJHS Annual Enrollment 2010” and look for your facility).

Social Networking Survey—Take a quick survey, you may win a prize!

Saint Joseph Health System is currently developing a social media plan to expand its marketing and communications efforts into this arena. One component of the plan is to establish a presence on various social networking sites (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.). With this in mind, we are interested to hear how active employees are online, what sites are the most popular, and if you would like to receive communication through this route.

Whether you have never been on a social networking site, or can’t stay off, we want to hear from you. By completing this simple online survey, you will register for a drawing for one of three $75 VISA gift cards that will be given after the December 11 deadline. Take the survey at www.sjhlex.org/SocialNetworkingSurvey.

Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program Offered in Lexington

January is notoriously the time of year that people begin to try and lose weight. However don’t wait until January; now’s the time to start thinking about it. With annual enrollment wrapping up, it is a great time to consider the cost of weight loss and plan ahead to include these expenses within your flexible spending accounts.

Did you know the Saint Joseph Center for Weight Loss Surgery (located at Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Hospital) offers a 6-12 month medically supervised weight loss program? The program includes one-on-one counseling with a medical doctor, registered dietitian, and exercise physiologist. There is even an on staff psychologist available as needed. The program is tailored to meet your needs and address your specific problems with long term weight loss success.

Maybe you have tried weight loss in the past and are now considering weight loss surgery. You should know that currently CHI insurance requires medical documentation of 12 consecutive months of your participation in a supervised weight loss program such as the one offered within our clinic. So stop thinking and start planning for 2010!

If you would like more information regarding our weight loss program and the cost associated with it or more info on the surgical options available, please contact Amanda at 859.967.5518.

Today is Our One-Year Anniversary of Being Tobacco-Free!

Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its tobacco-free initiative. This time last year, November 20, 2008, SJHS implemented a tobacco-free campus policy prohibiting the use of any tobacco products on hospital grounds. The initiative
further demonstrated SJHS’s commitment to healthier communities and the national and state efforts to reduce the negative effects related to tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure.

To help employees kick the habit for good, SJHS is still offering FREE enrollment into the Quit for Life Program; call 1.866.QUIT.4.LIFE or visit www.QuitNow.net.

Keeping Our Facility Grounds Tobacco-Free

Thanks for continuing to assist Saint Joseph Health System in monitoring its campuses by asking abusers to comply with the tobacco-free policy. Security or facilities should be contacted if someone refuses to stop smoking.

If you see a person using tobacco products on Saint Joseph Health System property, your response should be: “Excuse me Sir/Ma’am. Good morning/afternoon/evening, my name is __ and I am a __ here at the hospital. I need to inform you that all of our hospital property and parking areas, including inside cars, are tobacco free. May I ask you to please refrain from smoking? Thank you for coming to our facility and for respecting and abiding by this policy.”

Potential visitor statement: “Why do I need to leave the hospital property in order to smoke?”

Our response: “Sir/Ma’am, we need to have a healthy environment for your health and the health of others, so our hospital is a tobacco-free campus. Some of our patients who come to this hospital have cancer or respiratory problems and their health is directly affected by secondhand smoke, and all other people are indirectly affected by secondhand smoke. We have a responsibility to create an environment that improves wellness rather than causing health complications."

Patients are informed of our tobacco-free policy during pre-admission/admission.
