Welcome to Saint Joseph Heart
Institute
You're in good hands at Saint Joseph Heart
Institute. Since 1959, when Central Kentucky's first open heart surgery was
performed at Saint Joseph, we've been bringing together the best and latest
technology and an outstanding staff to provide Central and Eastern Kentucky with
the highest quality cardiac care.
The Institute's innovative cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons have
access to the latest research and technology, as well as to facilities that are
devoted exclusively to the care of cardiac intensive care and cardiac patients.
Nationally renowned surgeons perform rare, highly specialized procedures at the
Saint Joseph Heart Institute, which are performed at only select hospitals
throughout the country.
Saint Joseph Hospital was the site of Central Kentucky's first heart
catheterization in 1954. By 1959, the hospital had performed the first open
heart procedure in the region. Today, Saint Joseph Health System remains at the
forefront of cardiac care. The Heart Institute has led the way with
technological advances. In 1994, the Institute performed the first rotablator
procedure and the first Palmaz-Schatz stent procedure in Central Kentucky.
As part of Saint Joseph Health System and Catholic Health Initiatives, Saint
Joseph Heart Institute's mission is to care for the total individual,
physically, mentally and emotionally. At Saint Joseph, we combine the
Science of Medicine with the Heart of Compassion.
